Thanks to those folks who attended my presentation on social media marketing at the Social Networking conference in Miami last week. Long overdue, my apologies, but here's a link to the slides that some of you had requested.

As a side note, it was an interesting conference. Actually, it was two conferences being held at the same venue, Social Networking and Internet Dating. What I found fascinating was how much material there was in the dating conference that was directly applicable to the broader audience for general social networking.  Attendees were switching from one conference to the other, picking topics that suited their interests.

When it comes to driving participation and engagement (pun intended) the dating communities are showing some real initiative.

There's a bewildering array of options available to anyone trying to figure out what vendor to choose for their social media marketing initiatives. If it's any comfort to those who are looking, it's no less difficult for a vendor, trying to separate yourself from the noise. Unfortunately, in a market like our's, it's often hype that prevails over substance; so, it's with quiet enthusiasm we look forward to reports like today's Wave report from Jeremiah Owyang at Forrester. They conduct the appropriate due diligence (and they've been grilling us and our customers for months) to settle on what's really what in the space.

Now that its published, I'd like to acknowledge the solid work that Jeremiah and his team did. Obviously we're delighted to be included. That's not to say we agree entirely with Jeremiah's perspectives, but the team here's excited to be described as 'top-notch', 'experts' who are able to build 'pixel perfect' communities for companies.

If you're a Forrester client, it's well worth checking out.

We're growing fast, so three months ago I set out to hire a VP to run our Client Services group, That's the team here that builds and runs communities for clients. I've seen some great candidates, many thanks to those individuals who participated in the process. Now we're done and I'm delighted with the outcome.

Along the way I realized the title was a misnomer, "Client Services" felt way too passive. Having the best technology to build communities and launching them with clients is part of what we do, but isn't all we aspire to. Creating communities and making them successful.. that's what really drives us.

So, we've appointed a VP of Client Strategy and Success. The title might be bit of a mouthful, but it better captures what the role will entail; using our resources to help define and then deliver success for our customers with their communities.

The usual announcement machinery will let you know more.
